Brain Health Care

Look After The Body’s Most Important Organ
The brain is the most important organ in the human body, acting as a control centre. It was also one of the important internal organs in Chinese Medicine aspects from two thousand year ago.

Brain related diseases can be summarised as mental illness, neurological conditions and other related diseases. The common conditions often seeking acupuncture help are depression, anxiety, sleeping disorders, epilepsy, schizophrenia, addiction, autism, stroke, headache and vertigo, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, migraine, shock, convulsions, brain injuries, Cerebral Palsy (CP), myasthenia gravis, Multiple sclerosis (MS); some types of obesity, infertility, male and gynaecological diseases and some skin problems.

A brief introduction of acupuncture involved in a severe brain coma due to stem hemorrhage

W, a 31-year-old male with two daughters, suffered from a severe brain stem haemorrhage and was sent to the E&A of Queens Hospital (QH) on 1st Nov 2013. After five weeks in the ICU, he survived but was completely unconscious and had a tracheotomy. The hospital had no further intervention and just waiting.

His wife, with a new baby of 3 weeks, and cousin searched the internet and found that acupuncture might help him and contacted his local acupuncturist. Finally, they found me through another local acupuncturist. After a verbal permission from the hospital, I consulted the ICU staff, and examined him and then decided to help him. With the written permission of the family and hospital, Dr. Wang, based on his clinical experience of more than 20 years in China and the west, started the acupuncture treatment from 17th Dec 2013 with his special techniques and skills. I treated him every other day in the Neuro-intensive Care Ward of the QH. The patient made an impressive improvement and after 14 sessions of treatments, he woke up. This improvement was also evidenced by the coma from severe to moderate, muscle strength from zero to 3/4 out of 5, could respond to calling, etc. All the people involved such as the hospital staff and family members, are absolutely surprised and happy with the improvement.

It is believed that it could be the first case in the UK, that such a severe brain stem haemorrhage in its earlier sub acute stage achieved a rapid success in a national public hospital that was treated by acupuncture. The experiences of this successful case could be beneficial not only for W and his family but more hopefully benefit for public health in the future if studied and popularised.
